Tianjin, with a population of
10 million people, is one of the four municipalities directly under
the Central Government in China. Tianjin is located near Bohai Bay
to the east of China’s Capital, Beijing. It is connected with
Beijing by both a 120km motor expressway and express train service.
Trains leave every hour and take approximate 75 minutes for the
journey. Tianjin is the largest coastal city of industry and
commerce in the north of China with a long history, flourishing
education and health.

Medical University was formally established on June 16, 1951 as
the first medical university after the founding of the P.R.China.
Professor Hsien-I CHU, the famous endocrinologist, was appointed
the first president. Having been striving for more than 50
years, the University has developed into a medical university
featuring all kinds of disciplines and specialties in clinical
medicine, nursing science, medical techniques, pharmacy and
medical laboratory science, etc.
Tianjin Medical University
was one of the first medical universities in China to be
recognized by the WHO and one of 74 universities in China to
acquire the approval of the Ministry of Education to accept
overseas students. Presently, there are over 1000 students
(including 892 undergraduates ) from 56 countries enrolled in medical studies.
Tianjin Medical University is listed as one of 97 pillar
universities for 21st century development in China. Currently,
there are 17 colleges, 8 departments, 6 university hospitals, 6
affiliated hospitals and 46 teaching hospitals, which altogether
provide 15000 beds. There are 7493 staff members, 5127
undergraduate students, 1940 master’s and doctorate students and
over 1000 foreign students from 56 countries.
The Academic Degree
Committee of the State Council has authorized our university to
confer Master’s and Doctor’s degrees. We now have 3 post Ph. D
movable stations, 44 doctoral specialties as well as 61 master’s
specialties, which have formed an integrated education and
training system to produce qualified bachelor-master-doctor-post
Ph. D medical professionals.
The comprehensive levels of
some specialties in the university are superior, now we have
5 state key specialties, 12 provincial key specialties and
8 ministerial key laboratories of Ministry of Public Health. A large
number of state-of-the-art medical instruments in the hospitals
have created favorable conditions for the construction of
specialties, teaching and research, and have provided advanced
diagnostic and treatment means for medical service.
We have established a broad
cooperative relationship with more than 50 universities and
research institutions in foreign countries. 42 international
academic conferences have been successfully held. On the basis
of close collaboration with foreign universities and research
institutions, we have obtained a large amount of foreign funds
and a large number of international experts and scholars among
the top of the universities and colleges in Tianjin.
Professor Xi-shan Hao,
President of university, an Academician of Chinese Engineering
Academy and a famous expert of Oncology, has the position of the
Dean of International College.
Professor Xian-zhong Wu, an
Academician of Chinese Engineering Academy and a famous expert
of Integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine,
has the position of the honorary Dean of the International
College.
